Looking towards Mudd Hall of Philosophy from Exposition Boulevard, 1953-2012

The top photograph shows an eastbound car on the Pacific Electric Railway’s Santa Monica Air Line, in its final year of passenger service. Nearly six decades after its abandonment, rail transit has returned to Exposition Boulevard with the opening of the first phase of Metro’s Expo Line, currently operating between Downtown Los Angeles and La Cienaga Boulevard. The Expo Park/USC station, pictured above, is one of three new stations adjacent to the University of Southern California’s main campus.
